The “Temple Twelve,” a group of treasure hunters, might have finally found the “Lemminkainen Hoard” in Finland after their extensive search since 1987. The hoard consists of remarkable gold pieces, precious jewels, and numerous ancient artifacts.

The 'Temple Twelve' believe they may find the valuable hoard next year

A group of individuals, known as the ‘Temple Twelve’, have expressed their belief that they will be able to locate a valuable treasure trove in the coming year.

The hoard is thought to be hidden somewhere in the Sibbosberg cave system

It is believed that the stash of treasure is concealed within the complex cave system of Sibbosberg.

Carl Borgen is the world's leading authority on the Lemminkainen Hoard

A group of treasure hunters, from various parts of the world including Russia, Australia, the US, Sweden, Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands, have been dedicating their summers to search for the Lemminkainen Hoard. The hoard is believed to be the most valuable treasure ever found with around 50,000 precious gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds, along with 1,000 artifacts dating back thousands of years. Additionally, life-size statues made of 18-carat gold are thought to be part of the hoard. The treasure was acknowledged in 1984 when the landowner Ior Bock claimed that his family were descendants of Lemminkainen. The chamber on his estate had been sealed up with stone slabs in the 10th century to protect the treasure from invaders. Carl Borgen, the world’s leading authority on the Lemminkainen Hoard, has written a book called Temporarily Insane, detailing the lives of the hunters and the treasure. The group has been working six-hour days, seven days a week, and talks about being on the brink of a major breakthrough in finding the treasure.

Where the treasure hunters are searching for the hoard

The search for a hidden treasure in Finland has been ongoing for several decades, even after the death of its original seeker, a man named Bock. Bock, who was known for his eccentricities and mystic beliefs, claimed to be descended from an ancient pagan family line, which is detailed in the Bock sagas. The treasure is believed to be hidden in the Sibbosberg cave system, within an underground temple in Sipoo. The temple is said to have a spiraling hallway and small rooms where the treasure, collected over generations, is stored. The last time the collection was added to was in 987AD when the entrance was sealed and hidden. Despite countless official explorations involving over 100 professional prospectors, the treasure has yet to be found. However, the current group of treasure hunters is optimistic that they are just meters away and could uncover it next summer.

Back in 1987, a team of 24, consisting of 12 men and 12 women, started digging at the site. However, only two members of the original group are still involved with the excavation work today. The main focus of this article is Lemminkainen, a prominent character in Finnish mythology and one of the heroes in Kalevala. According to the tales, Lemminkainen is a combination of various figures from ancient Finnish oral poetry, often depicted as a young, attractive man with red, wavy hair. One myth tells the story of his attempt to capture or kill the black swan in the Underworld’s River Tuonela to win Louhi’s daughter’s hand in marriage. In another tale, he battles Surma, a fierce beast guarding the gates of Tuonela, with a snake’s tail and the ability to turn people into stone with its gaze. Although the current excavation team will take a break, they plan to return to the site in May and resume their work in September of next year.

Treasure hunters first started looking for the hoard in 1987

The search for the hidden treasure began in 1987, initiated by enthusiastic treasure hunters.

Landowner Ior Bock claimed his family were direct descendants of Lemminkäinen

An individual known for exploring YouTube videos came across a cave that resembled a spot used by the Knights Templar. This discovery was surprising for the explorer and may be of interest to news outlets. If you have a story that you believe is newsworthy, please send it to The Sun news desk.
